Three-layer window scantlings: what to specify

Three-layer (laminated) window scantlings offer better dimensional stability than solid timber because the stresses in the lamellas cancel each other out. That is why they are the standard for quality joinery.
When ordering, it matters to define the species (most often oak, pine or larch), the cross-section, length, grain orientation of the visible lamella and the target moisture. We supply at 8–10% moisture with clean glue lines.
For series window production, repeatability is key: the same geometry, the same joint quality and the same moisture from batch to batch. That reduces rework and waste in production at the customer.
